The Devil Wears Size 00
May 11, 2026You've probably seen The Devil Wears Prada. You might have loved it. You might have quoted it. But when I rewatched it recently, I was shocked by what I hadn't noticed the first time around — a movie-length masterclass in diet culture, dressed up in Chanel and Valentino and presented as aspirational.
In this episode I go scene by scene through moments that I genuinely could not believe I had missed the first time around. Once you hear this, you will never watch this movie the same way again.
But this episode isn't really about a movie. It's about the water we're all swimming in — the messages about bodies, thinness, and food that were installed in us long before we were old enough to question them. From the magazines in waiting rooms to the comments at family dinners to the doctors who made the scale the first order of business — these messages are everywhere. And the most dangerous thing about them is that they feel like reality rather than what they actually are: beliefs we never chose.
If you've ever felt guilty after eating something you love, started over on a Monday more times than you can count, or looked in the mirror and seen a problem instead of a person — this episode is for you.
The water you've been swimming in is not the truth about your body. And you get to decide what happens next.
