The Rachel Pregnancy Test Episode and Why You Judge Your Own Urges
Sep 28, 2026I'm sitting down to work, and out of nowhere, I get the urge to watch one specific Friends clip.
Immediate reaction: that would be irresponsible. There's work to do.
Then the negotiation starts. It's only five minutes. It won't matter that much.
Except how often does anyone actually watch just one video? "This one looks funny too." "Just one more." And suddenly an hour is gone.
In that moment, it feels like there are only two options: watch it and hope I "do better" this time, or grit my teeth and force myself to resist.
But there's a third option, and it's the one nobody teaches you. Instead of judging the urge, get curious about it. Why this urge? Why this particular clip? Why right now?
When I actually asked myself that, the answer surprised me. And it led to insights about myself that I hadn't figured out any other way.
Here's the thing. This isn't really about Friends, or ice cream, or any specific craving. It's about what urges are actually made of, and why the same pattern shows up whether it's a TV show or a plate of food.
In this episode, I walk through exactly how I traced one urge back to what was really going on, why the "just resist it" approach never works long-term, and why doing this for yourself is so much harder than spotting the pattern in someone else's story.
If you've ever felt an urge and immediately called yourself weak, undisciplined, or out of control for having it, this episode is for you.
